Pet-Friendly Hotel Rules for Traveling with Fido of Fluffy
Traveling is a thrilling adventure. And when you take your pets along, the excitement doubles. Assuming you are like most pet-parents who treat pets like family, taking them on your trips is a given. While it is fun, it’s your responsibility to follow hotel rules and regulations regarding the admission of pets, to ensure you, your pet, and other guests are safe. Learn about the six basic rules you should be aware of before checking into any pet-friendly hotel.
- Chatty pets must be left behind at home
If you know for sure that your pet makes loud noises in familiar environments, they might probably do the same in a new place too. And, hotels are places where there are dozens of other unfamiliar people. So avoid taking your pet along if they are chatty or emphatic in their expressions. Leave your pet behind with a friend, neighbor, or professional pet-sitter who can take care of them while you are away. - Check the latest policies of the hotel
Information you might find on the internet or from friends about hotel pet policies might not be up-to-date. It is best to call up the hotel you intend to stay in to discover their latest rules regarding pets.
Ask the hotel how many pets are allowed, and what species, breed, and sizes they can be. Some hotels even mention how much your pet should weigh.
Learn if the hotel provides food or treats, food and water bowls, and beds for your pets. Are they free of cost, or do you have to pay for them?
Are there any special charges you must pay for your pets to stay?
Gather all the details before making reservations. Do this ahead of your travel at the hotel of your choice. - Sign the hotel’s pet admission form
Upon arrival at the hotel, read the hotel’s pet policy statement carefully, fill in all the details in the pet admission form, and make advance payments if entailed. As a pet owner, you must comply with rules, regulations, and laws (regarding having them at the hotel). You must carry pet licenses and vaccination certificates with you for inspection. - Find out which areas are accessible.
Once you check into a pet-friendly hotel, find out which areas are accessible for you and your pets. In some hotels, they might not be allowed in the lobby and reception areas, dining rooms, restaurants, gym, spa, swimming pools, the terrace, the lifts, and escalators. Check if your pets have to be leashed or crated during their stay in the hotel. Is it safe/allowed to let them free inside your room without supervision? - Use door signs
Whether you’ve vacated the room, your pet is alone in the room, or both of you are in it, appropriate door signs must be used. As the owner of your pets, you will always be held responsible for whatever trouble they cause. - Know the rights of the hotel regarding evacuation
If your pet causes damage to the room, the furniture, or any hotel property, makes excessively loud noises, falls ill, urinates or defecates in public spaces in the hotel, or exhibits unacceptable or dangerous behavior, the hotel reserves the right to expel you and your pet. They might even slap fines for damages caused.
